Rowena Wright RSMA
Rowena is a marine artist and Illustrator working mostly in oil paint but also pencil, watercolour and chalk. She has been a member of the RSMA (Royal Society of Marine Artists) for nearly 20 years.
She paints a wide range of subjects but has chosen to specialise in marine art and landscape. She captures all the local boats plus the big regattas such as Cowes Week and the annual Round the Island Race.
Rowena says “I think the old classics yachts are still the most beautiful sight on the water. In a strong wind with the sun on their sails, powering down towards you, they are magnificent. To be out on the water recording the action as they thunder past is fantastic.”

Her work has taken her to sailing events in the Solent, Antigua, St Tropez and the BVI. She paints for exhibition and commission, working from life but mostly from photos to help her capture the subject at its best.
She also spent 7 years as a volunteer crew member on Cowes Inshore Lifeboat and later the RNLI in Cowes. There were a great many routine callouts and patrols interspersed with some very serious incidents and loss of life. The pager could go off at any time, day or night, often interrupting her painting. It was a fascinating experience that enriched her knowledge and understanding of the Solent and all that floats (and sinks) on it.
Her work is widely collected and is in collections across the world.
