Clare Bowen
Clare says..
I am moved by the majesty of open space to capture the Island in acrylic or oil, and drawn to the Island’s coastline. My aim is to capture the effect of the changing seasons and time of day on the land. I always start a painting in situ so that I can appreciate the wind, movements and sounds in that moment, in my work. I strive to paint a place so that it can be identified by the viewer but in such a way that the joy of the breeze, the movement of the sea or the light or shape of a field is communicated too.
Back in her studio, Clare uses a variety of tools: large brushes, sponges, palette knives, wedges and blades letting the paint speak for itself. She uses a limited palette, moving the paint around the board to create balance and harmony.
She shares her painting process and methods with others, teaching a monthly painting group and running weekend workshops in which she supports students to develop their own expressive style.

I welcome commissions, enjoying the challenge of capturing the essence of a view from another person’s perspective.
